Yoga According to the Sutras and Bhagavad Gita (12 hours)
Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, and Sankhya

As Patanjali expresses his view of yoga in concise aphorisms known as sutras, so Veda Vyaasa reveals yoga through a conversational song between a devoted student, Arjuna, who is struggling to evolve towards a happier and more fulfilling state of mind, and his spiritual teacher, Krishna. This Bhagavad Gita, "Song of the Divine," conveys profound insights about life, death, action, inaction, yoga etc. The Samkhya system of philosophy provides a foundation for both. After a brief training on how to pronounce the Sanskrit letters, we will explore how these texts explain yoga and Samkhya in their own unique ways. Along the way we will chant many sutras and shlokas. No previous study of either text or Sanskrit is required. Please bring your favorite translations.
