by Nicolai Bachman
Chanting the powerful Sanskrit sounds of each chakra (technically spelled “cakra”) moves one’s consciousness to a subtler and more refined state. Chakras, circular energy spheres located in the subtle body along the spine, rotate via our life force (prāṇa). Using visualization, breathing and focused attention, Nicolai will lead you in a call-and-response fashion through the primary and secondary sounds of each chakra in succession, progressing from the root chakra at the base of the spine, and moving upward as each chakra element becomes less dense and more subtle (earth, water, fire, air, space, mind). The final crown chakra, representing pure awareness, resounds as Om, then silence. Primary sounds are chanted 108 times (12 sets of 9), and secondary sounds are recited once each. The anatomical chakra order from lower to upper also represents a movement of consciousness from outer distraction to inner peace. After the chant is over, please sit quietly and bask in the quietude and pureness of your inner Self.
